Our Mission and History

WeCare has 3 locations locations to serve our patients. Our original facility is along Highway 36 in Mad River one mile away from the county line, our Scotia facility off of Highway 101 just past the Scotia shopping complex, and our newest facility in Weaverville just off Highway 3.

WeCare is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) Community Health Center. We were also awarded a special designation May 1st, 2005 as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The area we serve is federally recognized as a Medically Underserved Area, and has Professional Shortage Area designations for Primary Care, Mental Health, and Dental. The clinic was founded by a group of concerned citizens 26 years ago with a mission “to improve the quality of life in southern Trinity and southeastern Humboldt Counties by providing access to quality, comprehensive, innovative, and integrated primary health care and emergency medical services regardless of ability to pay.”

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

Our Dedicated Providers and Administrators

  • Medical Providers
WeCare's two primary care clinics, in Mad River and Scotia, are staffed with people who live in the community and who understand the wonderful joy of living in a rural community in California.
  • Dental Providers
WeCare expanded dental care opportunities for people in Trinity County in 2019, and we're currently expanding our dental practice in Scotia. In addition, we've been providing dental services in Mad River for more than a decade.
  • Behavioral Health Providers
The Behavioral Health Program model currently in use at WeCare allows for both self- and provider-referral of patients.
  • Admin Team
Our administrators at WeCare navigate the organization through the changing world of health care. They make sure that our resources are deployed efficiently to meet the need s of our patients as well as respond to the long term financial, demographic and legal trends in motion through the surrounding rural communities in northern California.
  • Board
Our board members act as the governing body of the WeCare system. They develop and review the hospital's overall mission and strategy.
